It’s 2:43 AM and I just got home from the stu­dio where we recorded a new song called “Life Of Some­one Else”. It’s killer and I’ll try to sneak it online for you guys when I can finally grab a copy of it — it hasn’t been mixed yet.

The com­ing weeks will be hec­tic as I bal­ance exam timeta­bles and 4–5 stu­dio ses­sions a week but when there’s an album record­ing involved, it’s just one of those things where you gotta bal­ance and jug­gle every­thing or the funky man in the psy­che­delic Santa suit comes and smacks you upside the head with a trout.

A few peo­ple have been ask­ing me recently what it’s like to be record­ing an album. Well, I drive an hour to get to the stu­dios every time we have a stu­dio ses­sion and the drive home takes 30 min­utes as there is no traf­fic at 1–2 AM in the morn­ing. With the addi­tion to uni, I jug­gle singing lessons, meet­ings with Michael for song­writ­ing, stu­dio mix­ing ses­sions with var­i­ous pro­duc­ers and the actual stu­dio record­ing ses­sions them­selves. Some­times, I get home at 3 AM in the morn­ing, then wake up at 7 AM for classes, then head off to Michael for some song­writ­ing, then head to the stu­dio at night for some more record­ing. It’s hec­tic but it’s fun try­ing to dodge the trees as I drive home half-asleep (just kidding).

Actu­ally it’s not that bad. The most reward­ing expe­ri­ence is that moment where there’s musi­cal syn­ergy and the end result is some­thing so funky we wet our pants.

The stu­dio ses­sions get funky some­times — for exam­ple, one of the most recent ses­sions had me gagged with a silk tie while I had to try to have my vocals recorded while singing through it. It gets a lit­tle strange, but when it’s the cre­ative arts, you just roll with it.
